An Evening to Remember

Well, it WAS an "evening to remember!" I am sorry about the picture, but as we arrived at the door, we were met by a young lady coming out with two or three cameras in hand, informing us there were to be no pictures or recording devices inside. Phooey!!! Upon entering the building, I am glad that we returned ours to the car. There were Secret Service everywhere.

We were sitting there waiting for the lecture to begin, when out strolls these two men (there was no big fanfare announcing the former President). When everyone realized who the first gentleman was, the crowd rose to their feet cheering and clapping.

He was very adamant about the priorities in his life: faith, family and friends. He reminded us that these things would help us through our journey of life. He let us know that he was the "proudest" father in the world, and admitted that he got really irate when he hears negative comments about his son, President George W. Bush. He kept us laughing the whole time; a very good sense of humor. He let us know that he has to wear earphones "IN MY OWN BEDROOM." Barbara got so tired of him yelling at the newscasters making ugly remarks about the sitting President, that she told him, "No more!" He also said that he was tired of people asking, "Where's Barbara?" He reminded us that, "I WAS THE PRESIDENT!"

He reminded us that regardless of the way the elections turn out, we, as Americans, need to be less cynical and more civilized. He let us know that he definitely does not like the national media, but there is still freedom of speech here in America.

The President even talked about his loss to former President Clinton. He said that he had to forgive and forget and move on after his loss in 1992. Upon telling about his sky diving event several years ago, he turned to Barbara after it was over and asked her, "What did you think about that fall?" She replied, "It was very similar to the one you had in 1992!"

He talked about the different positions he has held through the years, and that his son still has him going as a diplomat for the United States to different places. Today, he is going to Mexico for the swearing in of their new President.

What a memory! You would have had to of been there.
